If you’re like me, you carry around a backpack or bag packed with all your office needs for the day. Sure, the more permanent environment of your normal office is important, but a change of surroundings keeps the energy flowing.

On the days I need a change of scenery, I scroll through my list of comfy and casual spots in Tacoma, listen to my pallet, then hit the road. Since each of these places holds a special place in my heart, I thought I’d share with you!

ANTHEM COFFEE TACOMA

  • What I Order: Almond Milk Matcha Latte, sometimes a flatbread pizza thing. I tried their Bacon, apple and brie flatbread. It was delicious.

  • What I love: The overall aesthetic and atmosphere. It’s decked out in reclaimed wood, industrial pipes, and sweet Edison bulbs. Also, they make the smoothest almond milk lattes I have ever had.

  • Best Time to Snag a Spot: 1p-2p or 3-4p | Open Hours: 7-6 during the week, 8-5 during the weekend

  • Address: 1911 Pacific Ave, Tacoma, WA 98402 [click for a map or scroll to the bottom for a nifty map of all the spots!]

SAVOR CREPERIE

  • What I Order: Salmon Crepe with a french press of Valhahla coffee…or a Mimosa if it’s just one of those days.

  • What I love: The friendly staff and how perfectly balanced all of the flavors are. It’s rich, but not overwhelming, you can tell the recipes were crafted with care.

  • Best Time to Snag a Spot: 3p-5p or right at 11a when they open  | Open Hours: 11-7p, Closed on Sundays

  • Address: 1916 Pacific Ave, Tacoma, WA 98402 [click for a map or scroll to the bottom for a nifty map of all the spots!]

HAPPY BELLY

  • What I Order: Oh gosh. This is the hardest thing. Everytime I get something different because it’s all that good. But I’ll break it down like this: Smoothie = Green Machine Sub Coconut Milk + Vanilla Protein, Bahn-Mi Sandwich, Thai Soup + Salmon, McFlorentine,  Salmon Pineapple Tacos

  • What I love: All the awesome options. It’s hard to eat out and eat healthy. Happy Belly makes it easy.

  • Best Time to Snag a Spot: 10am -11:30p or 1:30-3p, Note: WiFi can be unreliable. Great place to meet people or do non-wifi work, but not always for wifi needs.

  • Address: 1122 Market St, Tacoma, WA 98402 [click for a map or scroll to the bottom for a nifty map of all the spots!]

BLACK KETTLE BITES & BREW

  • What I Order: Almond Milk Latte, Turkey BLT – Delicous.

  • What I love: The relaxed vibe and awesome staff. Also, they host trivia every Thursday!

  • Best Time to Snag a Spot: 1-3p | Open Hours: 7-10 Mon-Thurs, 7-11 on Fri., 9-11 on Sat. and 9-9 on Sun.-5

  • Address: 744 Market St, Tacoma, WA 98402 [click for a map or scroll to the bottom for a nifty map of all the spots!]

METRONOME

  • What I Order: Whatever unique seasonal combination sticks out most! Metronome is best at creative flavor combos.

  • What I love: Local music, unique recipes, and a cool aesthetic.

  • Best Time to Snag a Spot: 12p-2p during the week for work | Open 7-10 during the week, 8-10 on weekends

  • Address: 3518 6th Ave, 101, Tacoma, WA 98406 [click for a map or scroll to the bottom for a nifty map of all the spots!]

MARLENE’S

  • What I Order: A loaded Sandwich. (I don’t have a pic) I love ordering Marlene’s custom sandwiches. Some of the best darn gluten-free bread stuffed with all sorts of veggies, organic meats and just the right amount of honey mustard.

  • What I love: Being able to shop and eat. I’m guilty of grocery shopping on an empty stomach.

  • Best Time to Snag a Spot: 10am – 11:30 or 2:00p – 4:00p | However, it’s important to note, no matter how busy, Marlene’s takes a bit longer to craft your meal. If you’re in a hurry I’d grab something from their pre-made meals section or another snack from their aisle.

  • Address: 2951 S 38th St, Tacoma, WA 98409 [click for a map or scroll to the bottom for a nifty map of all the spots!]
