Your Peeps: Finding the Realtor & Lender for You

Welcome to the post about finding the right people for you!

In a world where everyone is trying to sell you something, where everyone claims they’re the best of the best, we can use a compass to locate the right teammates for us.

In total transparency, before joining real estate (and even into) I thought “real estate agent” or “Realtor” was a dirty word. It felt no different then “used car salesmen”. Or “telemarketer”. As growth and experience go, I learned this stereotype (though founded) wasn’t the whole story.

Turns out there are some amazing people serving in the Real Estate industry. They lead with expertise, humanity, and a genuine desire to make positive change in their clients lives. They were (are) inspiring.

You laugh, you cry, you eat, you poop, you fall in love, you get angry, you struggle, you thrive, you live in a home.

It’s these people who go the extra mile, who protect you, connect you, and guide you into the next chapter of your life. It’s a pretty big deal. It’s not just about finding Pinterest worthy spaces or fiscally investing in your future. You laugh, you cry, you eat, you poop, you fall in love, you get angry, you struggle, you thrive, you live in a home. There are plenty of people who respect that.

Here’s How You Find Them

  • Talk to Other People. Ask your friends, family, your teachers, anyone whose opinion you trust. Here’s the catch though, you STILL don’t have to use them just because a friend recommended them. What’s right for someone else isn’t always right for you, and that’s good.

  • Investigate. Although obvious, poking around on the internet can tell you a lot. However, just because someone is not on every possible platform doesn’t meant they aren’t damn good or perfect for you.

  • Talk to them in person. I mean, really, in person. Go on a few “Realtor Dates”. There’s no better tool (sorry Facebook and Yelp) to REALLY feel someone out then an in-person meeting.

Here’s What to Look For

  • Transparency, Honesty, Integrity. An agent fights for you and your interests. They are the bridge connecting you to the other side of home ownership. So look for someone with integrity.

  • Expertise & Strategy. You want a Realtor who knows their stuff. If they don’t know something they know exactly how to find it immediately. You also want a Realtor who knows how to use that expertise. Strategy is crucial in weathering the storms of real estate.

  • Someone You Enjoy. I know, this sounds fluffy, and maybe some people don’t care about this. But the truth is buying is emotional and you’re going to spend a lot of time with your Realtor. Look for someone who makes you comfortable, who even makes you laugh.
